SEO ROI Calculator for B2B SaaS
See when SEO would pay for itself, what each customer would cost, and how an agency quote compares with 46 B2B SaaS SEO agencies’ published prices. The defaults come from dated studies and real agency pricing, and they account for AI answers in Google.
At position 3 for 20,000 searches a month, with 50% showing an AI answer, you’d get about 250 visits, 5.3 leads, and 0.19 customers a month once your pages reach that position. Lifetime ROI on the first year’s customers is -26%. At these numbers, SEO doesn’t pay for itself within two years. The comparison below shows which change helps most.

How the math works
The calculator takes your total monthly searches and multiplies them by the click-through rate for your expected position. Where a search shows an AI answer, it uses the lower click-through rate for that position, so the blended rate depends on how many of your searches show one.
Visits grow in a straight line until your pages reach the target position, in the number of months you choose. Visits turn into leads at your visitor-to-lead rate, and leads turn into customers at your lead-to-customer rate.
Each customer adds one twelfth of their annual contract value every month after they sign. Cost is the setup fee plus the monthly fee for every month. Payback is the first month when total revenue catches up with total cost. Counting revenue month by month, instead of booking a full year’s contract on signing, keeps payback honest.
The quote checker compares your monthly price with the lowest published monthly tier of 46 B2B SaaS SEO agencies, divides the price by the articles it includes, and adds up the first-year cost with any setup fee.
Where the defaults come from
Every default can be changed. Here’s where each one comes from, so you can decide whether it fits your business.
| Input | Default | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Click-through rate by position, with and without an AI answer | Position 1: 7.1%, or 3.6% with an AI answer. Position 3: 1.7%, or 0.8% | First Page Sage, updated September 22, 2026 (3.67 billion Google impressions) |
| Visitor to lead, SEO, B2B SaaS | 2.1% | First Page Sage B2B SaaS funnel benchmarks, updated June 11, 2025 |
| Lead to customer, SEO, B2B SaaS | 3.7% (41% to MQL × 51% to SQL × 49% to opportunity × 36% to closed) | First Page Sage B2B SaaS funnel benchmarks, updated June 11, 2025 |
| Monthly SEO cost | $5,000, the median first tier with content across 46 B2B SaaS SEO agencies | Published prices on each agency’s website, checked October 25, 2026 |
| Average agency retainer, all industries (for comparison) | $3,209 a month | Ahrefs survey of 439 SEO providers, updated August 2024 |
How to use the result
Run three scenarios. Try a cautious case (position 5, most searches with AI answers), a likely case, and a good case (position 1 or 2). If only the good case pays back, the plan depends on rankings you can’t promise.
Look at search demand first. A small set of keywords rarely pays back a full agency retainer, however well the pages rank. If the numbers come out low, look for more keywords close to a purchase, such as comparisons and alternatives, before you change anything else.
Start with pages you already have. Refreshing pages that sit on page two usually reaches the target position faster than new pages, which shortens the ramp and brings payback forward. Measuring content marketing ROI after launch shows whether the estimate held, and the SEO KPIs to report keep the numbers tied to pipeline.
SEO ROI questions
What’s a good SEO ROI for a SaaS company?
There’s no single benchmark, because it depends on your contract value and how many people search for what you sell. A useful bar is whether the customers SEO brings in during the first year pay back that year’s cost within their lifetime. In the calculator, that’s the lifetime ROI line. If it’s negative at realistic inputs, look for keywords with more search demand or closer to a purchase before you hire an agency.
How long does SEO take to pay back?
It depends mostly on how fast your pages reach their target position and how much each customer pays. Refreshing pages that already rank on page two usually moves faster than publishing new ones. The calculator assumes a straight-line ramp over the months you enter, then counts revenue month by month, so payback is never booked early.
How much does SEO cost?
Across all industries, SEO agencies average $3,209 a month in Ahrefs’ survey of 439 providers. Agencies that specialize in B2B SaaS start higher: across 46 that publish prices, the cheapest monthly tier has a median of $4,250, and the first tier that includes content has a median of $5,000 (checked October 25, 2026).
Do AI Overviews change SEO ROI?
Yes. When an AI answer appears, First Page Sage’s data shows the click-through rate for position 1 falling from 7.1% to 3.6%, and Ahrefs measured a 58% drop in clicks for position-one pages on keywords with AI Overviews. The calculator’s AI answer setting applies those lower rates to the share of your searches that show one. Being cited inside the AI answer can win some of those clicks back.
Is the quote checker’s data up to date?
The 46 agencies’ prices were read on their own websites on October 25, 2026, and the date shows next to every comparison. Agency prices change, so treat the comparison as a benchmark rather than a quote.
