10 Best Freelance Writers to Hire in 2026 (By Specialty)

Nathan Ojaokomo
Nathan Ojaokomo
Content Writer + Strategist for B2B SaaS Companies

TL;DR

  • Shortlist freelance writers who’ve already written content formats you want for buyers like yours. That match is a better predictor of a strong first draft than general writing talent.
  • For SEO and bottom-of-funnel content, look at Nathan Ojaokomo, Ryan Kane, Pawel Tatarek, and Ayomide Joseph. Elise Dopson and Amanda Jackson lead on research and thought leadership, Oliver Munro and Lizzie Davey on ecommerce, and Jessica Stronach and Damilola Esebame on fintech.
  • As of 2026, expect $450–$750 for a 1,500-word post from a niche specialist and $800–$1,500+ for bottom-of-funnel pieces that need product testing or interviews.

You usually start looking for a freelance writer when your content plan outgrows the team.

Sales wants comparison pages for the three competitors that keep showing up in deals. Product is launching into a market your writers have never covered. The briefs are ready, but there aren’t enough writers to take them, and the AI drafts you tried sound like every other vendor in your category.

At that point, the useful question is whether a writer has already produced the format you need for buyers like yours. One of my clients hired me for exactly that reason. They could see I’d already written the same content formats for other companies in their industry.

This list groups 10 freelance writers by the work they do best, including SEO and bottom-of-funnel content, research and thought leadership, ecommerce, and fintech. That way, you can shortlist by fit instead of scrolling through marketplace profiles. I’m a freelance writer myself, and I’m on this list.

The best freelance writers by what you need

  • Nathan Ojaokomo for bottom-of-funnel B2B SaaS content that ranks on Google and in AI search
  • Ryan Kane for SaaS and fintech comparison articles built on product testing
  • Pawel Tatarek for a full B2B SaaS content program, including refreshes
  • Ayomide Joseph for bottom-of-funnel content for cybersecurity and CRM software
  • Elise Dopson for journalistic, expert-sourced content for ecommerce and marketing brands
  • Amanda Jackson for original research reports and the distribution plan around them
  • Oliver Munro for ecommerce SEO, from strategy to product pages
  • Lizzie Davey for SaaS and ecommerce content grounded in customer research
  • Jessica Stronach for UK accounting, payroll, and cross-border payments content
  • Damilola Esebame for finance journalism covering crypto, investing, and markets

How I chose these freelance writers

The main filter was format and industry fit. A writer who has shipped 50 comparison pages for SaaS companies will usually hand you a stronger first comparison page than a better-known generalist, because they already know what the buyer is weighing and what a reviewer will flag.

Every writer here also had to meet four conditions.

  • A clear specialty. Their site states which industries and formats they cover, so you can tell quickly whether they fit your brief.
  • Work you can check. Named clients, bylines, or publications are listed on their own site or portfolio.
  • Evidence beyond samples. Case studies, client testimonials, or stated results give you something to verify on a call.
  • Taking on client work. As of September 2026, each writer’s site offers a way to hire them or book a call.

I left out agencies (there’s a separate list of the best content writing agencies if you need a team) and writers who only exist as marketplace profiles. The order within each category isn’t a ranking. If your focus is narrower, the lists of the best B2B SaaS content writers and best SEO content writers go deeper on those niches.

Best freelance writers for SEO and bottom-of-funnel content

These four writers focus on bottom-of-funnel content, such as comparison pages, alternatives posts, product-led guides, and case studies. Hire from this group when sales needs content it can send to prospects or when your organic traffic isn’t turning into demo requests.

1. Nathan Ojaokomo

Nathan Ojaokomo’s homepage for B2B SaaS content writing and strategy
Screenshot from Nathan Ojaokomo’s website

I’m a freelance bottom-of-funnel content writer and strategist, and I’ve been writing for B2B software companies such as Zapier, HubSpot, Sinch, Softr, CoSchedule, and Appcast since 2020. My work sits at the point where a prospect decides whether to book a demo. That means comparison pages, alternatives articles, best-of listicles, case studies, and refreshes of pages that have started to slip.

Before I write about a product, I sign up for it, use it the way a customer would, and take screenshots as I go. Here’s what that process has produced for clients and for my own site.

  • $36,000 in annual recurring revenue for a client from one article
  • A #1-ranking Zapier article that brings in about 4,000 visits a month and saves the company $20K+ a year in ad spend
  • An estimated $1.6 million a year in traffic value for Softr’s best knowledge management software article
  • An estimated $118,000 a year in traffic value for Taboola’s article on native advertising platforms
  • First-place rankings and Google AI Overview appearances for commercial searches such as “Rankshift review,” “TickTick review,” “best freelance writer for B2B SaaS,” and “audience targeting platforms”
  • Growth on my own site to about 3,000 monthly visits and an estimated $130,000 a year in traffic value

Choose me when you want content that shows up on Google and in AI search, especially bottom-of-funnel formats like “X vs. Y” pages, alternatives articles, and best-of listicles.

Articles start at $700, content refreshes at $400, and strategy plus writing retainers at $3,500 a month.

2. Ryan Kane

Ryan Kane’s website homepage
Screenshot from Ryan Kane’s website

Ryan Kane writes comparison, alternatives, and product-led content for B2B SaaS and fintech brands, including Zapier, Softr, Jotform, Dock, The CMO, The CX Lead, and Belfry. He has written more than 125 SaaS comparison articles.

His site describes the process behind them, which covers hands-on product testing, real user feedback, fresh screenshots, changelog reviews, and fact-checking. That last step is easy to overlook until a competitor’s pricing changes and your comparison page is suddenly wrong. His coverage spans fintech, enterprise automation, AI tools, and martech, so he’s a good fit when your comparison set includes tools from more than one category.

Choose Ryan when “X vs. Y” and alternatives pages are the main gap in your content plan, and you want each claim about a competitor checked against the product itself.

His rates aren’t published, so contact him through his site or LinkedIn for a quote.

3. Pawel Tatarek

Pawel Tatarek’s website homepage
Screenshot from Pawel Tatarek’s website

Pawel Tatarek is a Sheffield-based writer and editor for mid-market and enterprise B2B SaaS brands such as Userpilot, Crazy Egg, Perplexity, NP Digital, Doofinder, Product Fruits, Great Question, and Paymo. He says he has written more than 700 blog posts over five years, with pieces ranking in Google’s top three and cited in AI search results.

That volume shows in his range. His services cover SEO and AEO blog posts, listicles and comparisons, whitepapers and ebooks, case studies, content briefs, editing, and content refreshes. He also offers AI workflow automation, which is useful if you want a writer who can help your team produce more without handing the whole process to a model.

Choose Pawel when you need one writer to cover the whole funnel and keep your existing library up to date, especially in product, analytics, or marketing software.

His rates aren’t published, so email him through his site for a quote.

4. Ayomide Joseph

Ayomide Joseph’s website homepage
Screenshot from Ayomide Joseph’s website

Ayomide Joseph writes conversion-focused B2B SaaS content for cybersecurity, CRM, and customer communication software. His clients include Nutshell, Workvivo, Edgemesh, Trengo, Aura, HYCU, and Teramind.

He publishes case studies with numbers attached. His Edgemesh work produced 5 million impressions and 40,000 clicks in 14 months, and the Aura case study credits eight long-form pieces with more than 3,000 additional visitors. He plans content with his own INTENT framework, which maps each piece to what the prospect needs at that stage of the decision. You can hire him for a one-off audit and strategy, done-for-you content, or a monthly retainer.

Choose Ayomide when you sell cybersecurity, endpoint protection, or sales software and need content that explains a technical product to buyers who aren’t engineers.

He quotes by project scope.

Best freelance writers for research and thought leadership

Hire from this group when the content has to carry original insight, such as expert interviews, survey data, or a point of view your competitors haven’t published. This is the content that earns links, gets quoted, and gives your sales team a reason to start a conversation.

5. Elise Dopson

Elise Dopson’s website homepage
Screenshot from Elise Dopson’s website

Elise Dopson writes journalistic B2B content on ecommerce, marketing, entrepreneurship, and the creator economy for clients such as Shopify, Zapier, Descript, Shogun, CoSchedule, CXL, and Uscreen. She sources experts and weaves product tie-ins into content that still reads as editorial.

She built Help a B2B Writer, a service that connected writers with expert sources, which Superpath acquired in 2022. She also co-founded Peak Freelance, a community for freelance writers, and runs her own affiliate sites, social accounts, and an ecommerce brand, so she writes about growth from the operator’s side. She says she hasn’t missed a deadline in almost seven years.

Choose Elise when you sell to merchants, marketers, or creators and want content built on expert sources rather than a rewrite of page one.

Her rates start at $1 per word, which includes research, sourced expert quotes, examples, internal links, and one revision. She has a minimum monthly project rate of $1,500, and ghostwritten pieces cost an extra 20%.

6. Amanda Jackson

Amanda Jackson’s website homepage
Screenshot from Amanda Jackson’s website

Amanda Jackson, known as Manders, runs Mandaroo Marketing and focuses on original research reports for software brands and digital communities, with clients such as GrowthLoop and Beam Content. She has spent the last decade creating marketing content and the last four years working with B2B SaaS brands.

Her Original Research Roadmap covers the work before and after the report. It includes up to three one-hour consulting sessions, audience research and competitive analysis, a writing-ready brief and outline, a round of edits, and a distribution plan with content and visual recommendations. For GrowthLoop, that plan turned one research report into more than three months of content.

Choose Amanda when you have survey data or customer data (or budget to collect it) and want the report to feed your blog, social, and sales content for a full quarter.

Her rates aren’t published, so contact her through her site.

Best freelance writers for ecommerce brands

Ecommerce content has a different job from B2B content. Product and category pages have to rank and convert on the same visit, and the buyer often decides within a session rather than over a quarter. These two writers know that environment.

7. Oliver Munro

Oliver Munro’s website homepage
Screenshot from Oliver Munro’s website

Oliver Munro is an ecommerce content writer and SEO consultant for B2C and B2B online sellers, with clients including Red Stag Fulfillment, Flywallet, Hammer & Tongs, and Paste & Publish. He has run an online business and worked as an operations manager, and that background shows in his services, which run from keyword research, strategy, and content briefs to SEO articles, website copy, and product page optimization.

Red Stag Fulfillment’s head of content credits his work with generating highly qualified leads, which is a useful signal for B2B ecommerce and logistics companies.

Choose Oliver when you want one person to plan your ecommerce SEO and write both the blog content and the product pages it supports.

His rates aren’t published, but he offers a free consultation.

8. Lizzie Davey

Lizzie Davey’s website homepage
Screenshot from Lizzie Davey’s website

Lizzie Davey writes SaaS and ecommerce content, landing pages, and bottom-of-funnel pieces, with work published by Shopify, Klaviyo, CoSchedule, and Sprout Social. She has more than ten years of experience and says she has worked with more than 100 brands. She reports that 90% of her clients stay for at least a year, and some relationships have lasted five. That retention says more about how a writer handles feedback than any sample can.

She also writes The Content Writing Chronicles, a weekly newsletter, and runs Freelance Magic, an education business for writers.

Choose Lizzie when you sell software to ecommerce merchants, or you’re an ecommerce brand that needs landing pages and blog content written from customer research.

Her one-month Quick Content Strategy costs £5,500, and longer strategy engagements start at £2,850 a month. Writing rates aren’t published.

Best freelance writers for fintech

A factual error in finance content can do more damage than a weak headline. It can also take longer to get through compliance or legal review. These writers have spent years in their categories, so your subject-matter experts spend less time correcting basics. If you’d rather hand the whole channel to a team, compare the best fintech marketing agencies instead.

9. Jessica Stronach

Jessica Stronach’s website homepage
Screenshot from Jessica Stronach’s website

Jessica Stronach writes for people-focused tech, including HR and payroll, UK accounting and finance, and cross-border payments, with clients such as Mindtools, Valla, and BabelBond. She spent nine years at an accounting software company, working her way up to managing editor of its in-house content team before going freelance.

She writes SEO guides, thought leadership built on interviews with executives and experts, and case studies built on customer interviews. Her editor’s background shows in the rest of her services, which include content audits, refreshes, and process work. For Valla, she produced more than 90 pieces of content in six months along with a full content audit.

Choose Jessica when you sell accounting, payroll, or payments software to finance teams and want interview-led content your executives will put their names on.

SEO articles start at £500 for up to 1,500 words. Thought leadership with one executive or expert interview starts at £750, as do case studies with one customer interview, and SME-led product articles start at £1,200.

10. Damilola Esebame

Damilola Esebame’s website homepage
Screenshot from Damilola Esebame’s website

Damilola Esebame has been a finance journalist since 2018, covering DeFi and crypto, personal and corporate finance, global markets, and iGaming for publications and clients such as Investing.com, FinanceFeeds, Socratik, and PureLinq. Damilola is also an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI).

That pairing covers both halves of finance content, which are reporting on markets for a publication like Investing.com and explaining a concept clearly to a reader who is new to it. Damilola also writes SEO content, so a finance topic can go from keyword to published article without a separate writer and optimizer.

Choose Damilola when you run a trading, investing, crypto, or financial education product and need content that explains complex topics without losing accuracy.

Rates aren’t published, so get in touch through esebame.com.

How much do freelance writers cost in 2026?

Freelance writers charge from about $0.05 per word on marketplaces to $1 or more per word for niche specialists. For a 1,500-word B2B blog post, expect $250 to $450 from an experienced generalist and $450 to $750 from a specialist. Bottom-of-funnel pieces that need product testing or customer interviews often cost $800 to $1,500 or more.

Those ranges come from the breakdown of content writer rates I track. Rates also vary by format.

Content type (mid-to-senior writer)Typical price per piece
Blog post (800–1,500 words)$600–$1,200
Long-form guide (2,000–4,000 words)$1,500–$3,000
Competitor comparison page$1,200–$2,500
Alternatives page$1,000–$2,000

Four writers on this list publish prices. I start at $700 an article, Elise Dopson at $1 a word, and Jessica Stronach at £500 an article, while Lizzie Davey publishes her strategy packages. The other seven quote by project, which is normal for specialists because research depth, interview access, and revision rounds change the scope.

When you ask for quotes, send the same real brief to every writer on your shortlist so you’re comparing prices for the same work. The guide to what a freelance B2B content writer costs explains what changes at each price tier.

Where to find more freelance writers

If nobody here fits your industry, these are the main places to look. The options differ in how much vetting they leave to you.

WhereHow it worksWhat you payWatch out for
UpworkOpen marketplace where you post a job or invite writersA 5% marketplace fee on the Basic plan (3% for eligible US clients paying by checking account) or 10% on Business Plus, plus a contract initiation feeA large pool with uneven quality, so vetting falls on you
ContraPortfolio-based platform for independent professionalsFreelancers pay no commission, and Contra lists its current client contract fees on its siteSmaller pool of specialist B2B writers
Contently and WriterAccessManaged talent networks that match you with writersPlatform pricing on top of writer ratesLess direct control over who writes each piece
Superpath and Peak Freelance job boardsJob boards inside communities of content marketers and freelance writersVaries by boardYou still run the full vetting process
Bylines you already trustCheck who writes for the blogs and publications your buyers readThe writer’s rateThe best writers are often booked weeks ahead

Upwork fees are from Upwork’s client pricing page and Contra’s commission model is from Contra’s site, both as of September 2026.

Bylines are the most underused of these options. A writer who has published a comparison page you admired, on a competitor’s blog or in a trade publication, has already passed another editor’s review.

How to vet a freelance writer before you hire

Start with the fit that got these writers on the list. Ask for two published samples in your format and your industry. If they can’t send them, you’ll be paying for their learning curve.

Next, ask how they’d research your first piece. Strong answers name specific sources, such as your product, your sales calls, a customer interview, or a subject-matter expert on your team. Weak answers stop at keyword research and the top ten results. Ask how they use AI in their process, too. You’re not trying to rule it out, but you need to know which parts of the thinking are theirs.

Then run a paid test on a real brief. The best signal is how much your subject-matter expert has to correct, not how polished the prose is. There’s a fuller process for evaluating a freelance writer before you hire, and once you’ve picked someone, a structured plan for onboarding freelancers gets their second piece to your standard faster than their first.

Shortlist by format and industry, then test

Pick three writers whose published work includes your format for buyers like yours. Send each the same paid brief, and keep the one whose draft your subject-matter expert changes least. That test tells you more in two weeks than a month of portfolio reviews and discovery calls.

If your gap is bottom-of-funnel content for a B2B software product, such as comparison pages, alternatives posts, and case studies sales can send to prospects, book an intro call and bring the brief you’d test me with.

Frequently asked questions about hiring freelance writers

How much does it cost to hire a freelance writer?

A 1,500-word B2B blog post typically costs $250 to $450 from an experienced generalist and $450 to $750 from a niche specialist, as of 2026. Bottom-of-funnel content that needs product testing or customer interviews often runs $800 to $1,500 or more per piece, and long-form research guides can pass $3,000.

Where can I find good freelance writers?

The fastest route to a strong freelance writer is a byline you already trust, meaning a piece on a competitor’s blog or in a trade publication your buyers read. After that, try community job boards like Superpath and Peak Freelance, then marketplaces like Upwork and Contra, where you’ll do more of the vetting yourself.

Should I hire a freelance writer or a content agency?

Hire a freelance writer when you have a clear strategy and need specialist writing for one or two formats. An agency makes more sense when you need strategy, writing, editing, design, and distribution handled by one team at higher volume. The comparison of agency vs. freelancer for B2B content covers the cost and control differences in detail.

How can I tell if a freelance writer relies on AI?

Ask the writer to walk you through the research behind a published sample, including who they interviewed, what they tested, and which claims came from primary sources. Writers who do original research can answer in detail. A paid test on a topic that requires your product or your subject-matter experts also shows quickly whether the writer adds anything a model can’t.
