21 SEO Tools That Save Time and Drive Real Results

Nathan Ojaokomo

Something in your SEO workflow is no longer giving you the answers you need.

Your traffic may have stalled, but you cannot see why. Perhaps you need better competitor data or a reliable way to track rankings. You might also be approaching a subscription renewal and wondering whether your current platform is still worth what you pay for it.

That is usually where the search for an SEO tool begins.

You aren’t necessarily looking for the product with the longest feature list. You need accurate information that helps you make decisions without paying for several tools that do the same job.

This article compares SEO software across different jobs and budgets. You’ll see what each tool does well, where it falls short, what it costs, and who should consider using it. I’ll also show you how to combine free and paid options into a practical SEO stack.

What is an SEO tool?

An SEO tool is software that supports a specific part of improving a website’s visibility in search results.

One type may help you discover keywords and understand competing websites. Another crawls your pages to find technical problems.

You can also use SEO software to monitor rankings, measure organic traffic, optimize content, manage local visibility, or track how your brand appears in AI-generated answers.

SEO tools include free browser extensions, purpose-built tools, and larger platforms that combine several functions.

No tool can make every SEO decision for you. It may identify a page losing traffic or suggest terms to include in an article, but you still have to determine why the problem exists and whether the recommendation makes sense for your website.

Should you buy one SEO platform or build a stack?

An all-in-one platform makes sense when you handle several parts of SEO and want your research, audits, rankings, and reports in one account.

This approach reduces the number of subscriptions and interfaces you manage. However, the monthly fee may include capabilities you rarely use, while the function you care about most could be less detailed than what a purpose-built tool provides.

Building a stack lets you pay for depth where you need it. You can begin with free tools, then add a dedicated product for keyword research, technical auditing, local SEO, content optimization, or AI visibility.

The main inconvenience is that your data becomes spread across several platforms. Reporting may take longer unless the products connect to your dashboard or export cleanly.

Start by identifying the decision you cannot currently make. Once you know what information is missing, you can choose between one broad platform and a smaller combination of purpose-built tools.

How I selected these SEO tools

I haven’t personally tested every product in this article.

I have firsthand experience with several of them through my work in SEO content and AI search. When I discuss that experience, I’ll make it clear what I used the product for and what I found.

For tools I haven’t used directly, I reviewed current product documentation, pricing, usage limits, integrations, and Reddit discussions. I then assessed each option based on the job it performs, the quality of its data, its practical cost, and how easily you can act on its findings.

Prices were checked in July 2026. Where annual billing reduces the monthly price, I’ve stated that clearly.

Have the data but need content that attracts buyers?

Let’s talk

1. Google Search Console: Best free SEO foundation

Google Search Console should be the first SEO tool you connect to your website.

It shows the queries your pages appear for, how frequently searchers see them, and how many people click. You can also submit sitemaps, inspect individual URLs, and find indexing problems.

Because the data comes directly from Google, Search Console gives you a more reliable view of your performance than estimates from a third-party database. However, average position is not the same as a precise daily ranking. The figure is aggregated across searches, locations, and devices.

Pros

  • Search Console is free, and it doesn’t limit the number of keywords or websites you can monitor.
  • Since the information comes from Google, you can see the queries that generated real impressions and clicks rather than relying entirely on estimates.
  • Its indexing reports help you identify pages that Google cannot crawl or include in its search results.

Cons

  • Average position cannot replace a dedicated rank tracker, as it combines rankings across different searches and locations.
  • Search Console only shows queries for which your site already receives impressions, so it is less useful for discovering entirely new topics.
  • You cannot research your competitors or analyze their backlinks from the platform.

Key features

  • Search performance reports
  • URL Inspection
  • Page indexing reports
  • Sitemap submission
  • Core Web Vitals reports
  • Rich result monitoring

Google Search Console pricing

Free.

Who should use Google Search Console?

Use Search Console if you own or manage a website. It is also the first place to look when your website isn’t showing on Google.

2. Google Analytics 4: Best for measuring organic conversions

Search Console shows what happened before a visitor clicked. Google Analytics 4 shows what happened after that person reached your website.

You can identify the organic landing pages attracting visitors and see what those visitors do next. Once you configure key events, GA4 also shows whether organic traffic leads to signups, purchases, or demo requests.

Connecting GA4 to Search Console brings search queries and on-site behavior closer together. Still, Analytics is a measurement tool rather than a keyword research or ranking platform.

Pros

  • The standard version is free and can measure traffic across both your website and app.
  • By configuring key events, you can connect organic traffic to actions that have business value.
  • Its integrations with Search Console and Data Studio make it easier to combine acquisition and conversion data.

Cons

  • The interface takes time to learn, particularly if you are accustomed to the older Universal Analytics reports.
  • Incorrect event configuration can produce misleading conversion data and weaken the reports you build from it.
  • GA4 provides limited organic keyword information unless you connect the property to Search Console.

Key features

  • Traffic acquisition reports
  • Landing page performance
  • Key event and conversion tracking
  • User journey exploration
  • Search Console integration
  • Custom audiences and reports

Google Analytics pricing

The standard version is free. Google Analytics 360 uses custom enterprise pricing.

Who should use Google Analytics?

Use GA4 when you need to understand whether organic visitors engage with your website and complete the actions you care about.

3. Semrush: Best all-in-one SEO platform

Semrush covers more SEO and marketing tasks than most other platforms on this list.

I reach for it when I want to move from keyword discovery to competitor analysis without changing tools. Within the same account, you can audit a website, research backlinks, monitor rankings, and compare several domains.

Semrush now includes AI visibility reports and prompt monitoring too. As a result, you can track traditional and AI search without immediately paying for a separate platform.

The number of features takes time to understand, though. During your first few sessions, you may need to work out which reports are relevant to your goal.

Pros

  • Semrush brings keyword research, competitor analysis, backlink data, technical audits, and rank tracking into one platform.
  • Its large keyword database lets you research opportunities across numerous industries and countries.
  • Current plans include AI visibility features so that you can monitor some traditional and generative search activity from the same account.

Cons

  • The starting price is difficult to justify when you only need one or two of the platform’s functions.
  • Adding users and advanced capabilities can make the total cost considerably higher than the headline subscription price.
  • Because the interface contains so many reports, finding the right information can feel overwhelming at first.

Key features

  • Keyword Magic Tool
  • Organic Research
  • Keyword Gap
  • Backlink Analytics
  • Site Audit
  • Position Tracking
  • AI visibility and sentiment reports

Semrush pricing

  • Pro: $139/month or $117.33/month annually
  • Guru: $249/month or $208.33/month annually
  • Business: $499/month or $416.66/month annually

A limited free account is available.

Who should use Semrush?

Choose Semrush if you handle several parts of SEO and would rather pay for one broad platform than assemble multiple specialist subscriptions.

Ahrefs is particularly useful when your questions involve competitors and links.

Site Explorer shows which pages generate a competitor’s search traffic and which websites link to those pages. Meanwhile, Content Gap identifies keywords several competitors rank for that your site does not.

The platform also includes keyword research, rank tracking, and technical auditing. Even so, competitor and backlink intelligence remains its strongest reason for purchase.

Pros

  • Ahrefs provides detailed backlink reports that help you understand where a competitor’s authority comes from.
  • Site Explorer makes it easy to move from a competing domain to its top pages, keywords, and referring websites.
  • Free Webmaster Tools provide useful information for websites you own, even if you are not ready for a paid subscription.

Cons

  • Paid plans start at $129 per month, which can be expensive if your requirements are limited.
  • The Lite plan uses credits, so frequent research can exhaust your monthly allowance earlier than expected.
  • Lower plans include only one user, which makes collaboration more expensive.

Key features

  • Site Explorer
  • Keywords Explorer
  • Content Gap
  • Top Pages
  • Site Audit
  • Rank Tracker
  • Web Explorer

Ahrefs pricing

  • Lite: $129/month
  • Standard: $249/month
  • Advanced: $449/month
  • Enterprise: custom pricing

Who should use Ahrefs?

Choose Ahrefs if competitor research and backlink analysis influence a large portion of your SEO work. It is also one of the more useful SaaS SEO tools for finding topics with demonstrated commercial demand.

Found the keywords to target but don’t have time to create the articles?

I write bottom-funnel SEO articles for B2B SaaS teams.

Let’s talk

5. SE Ranking: Best value for growing SEO programs

SE Ranking now combines traditional SEO with generative engine optimization.

Its Core plan includes 10 projects, 2,000 tracked keywords daily, 100 AI prompts, website auditing, and competitor research. You also receive Data Studio integrations and API credits.

The platform is easier to navigate than some larger all-in-one products. Its menus generally follow the progression of an SEO project, from adding a website to monitoring results.

SE Ranking is no longer the inexpensive alternative people may remember. However, its allowances remain generous compared with several competing entry plans.

Pros

  • The Core plan gives you higher keyword and project limits than many similarly priced platforms.
  • Because traditional SEO and AI monitoring are included, you may be able to avoid a separate entry-level visibility subscription.
  • Integrations with GSC, GA4, Data Studio, Matomo, and the API support more advanced reporting workflows.

Cons

  • Recent price increases make SE Ranking less suitable when affordability is your main concern.
  • White-label reporting requires the Agency Pack, which incurs an additional fee on your annual subscription.
  • If you only need rank tracking, much of the platform will remain unused.

Key features

  • Keyword Rank Tracker
  • Competitive and Keyword Research
  • Backlink Research
  • Website Audit
  • On-Page SEO Checker
  • AI Results Tracker
  • Report Builder
  • Data and Projects APIs

SE Ranking pricing

  • Core: $129/month or $103.20/month annually
  • Growth: $279/month or $223.20/month annually
  • Enterprise: custom pricing
  • Agency Pack: $69/month with annual billing

A 14-day free trial is available.

Who should use SE Ranking?

Choose SE Ranking if you manage several websites or client projects and need generous tracking limits, along with research and reporting.

6. Morningscore: Easiest SEO platform for beginners

Morningscore turns SEO findings into missions.

Instead of leaving you to interpret dozens of reports, the platform recommends tasks and assigns estimated values to them. You can therefore see what to work on without having to learn every part of technical SEO first.

Alongside those missions, Morningscore provides keyword research, rank tracking, backlink monitoring, competitor analysis, and website checks.

Automated tasks still require judgment. A tool can flag a missing title or weak page without knowing whether fixing it should be your immediate priority.

Pros

  • Morningscore presents SEO information through a simpler interface than many all-in-one platforms.
  • Its mission system turns findings into specific tasks, which gives you a clearer place to begin.
  • The platform covers enough keyword, backlink, tracking, and auditing work to support a small website.

Cons

  • Advanced competitor and backlink research is less detailed than the information available in Ahrefs or Semrush.
  • The entry plan limits you to three websites and 100 tracked keywords.
  • If you already understand how to prioritize SEO work, the gamified missions may add little value.

Key features

  • Keyword research
  • Daily rank tracking
  • Competitor monitoring
  • Backlink analysis
  • Website health checks
  • SEO missions
  • ChatGPT and AI Overview tracking

Morningscore pricing

  • Lite: $69/month
  • Business: $99/month
  • Pro: $159/month
  • Premium: $299/month

A 14-day free trial is available.

Who should use Morningscore?

Choose Morningscore if you are learning SEO and want the software to provide guidance alongside its reports.

7. Keywords Everywhere: Best budget keyword research tool

Keywords Everywhere puts keyword data directly inside Google, YouTube, Amazon, and other websites.

Once the browser extension is installed, you can see search volume, CPC, competition, related terms, and historical trends while you browse. Consequently, simple keyword research no longer requires a $100-plus monthly subscription.

The extension also offers competitor and traffic reports. However, it doesn’t match the depth of Ahrefs or Semrush for technical audits and backlink research.

Keywords Everywhere uses credits. Every keyword metric fetched consumes at least one, while Google widgets can use several credits during a single search.

Pros

  • The low annual price gives you keyword metrics without requiring a full SEO subscription.
  • Because the data appears inside websites you already use, you spend less time moving between research tabs.
  • Its related terms and People Also Search For widgets can uncover useful long-tail variations.

Cons

  • Credits expire after 12 months, so purchasing more than you need can waste part of your budget.
  • One Google search may consume several credits because the extension loads metrics for every visible suggestion.
  • Keywords Everywhere cannot replace a full platform for technical audits or in-depth backlink research.

Key features

  • Search volume.
  • CPC, historical trends.
  • Related keywords.
  • People Also Search For data,
  • Competitor gap reports.
  • SERP metrics.

Keywords Everywhere pricing

Paid plans start at approximately $7 per month, billed annually. The Bronze plan includes 100,000 annual credits.

Several browser-based features are available free.

Who should use Keywords Everywhere?

Choose Keywords Everywhere if you need affordable keyword data but cannot justify Semrush or Ahrefs.

Google Trends shows whether interest in a term is growing, declining, or seasonal.

This information is useful before you rely on a keyword tool’s monthly average. Two terms may have similar estimated volume while moving in opposite directions. Trends can reveal that difference.

The numbers are normalized rather than absolute. A score of 100 represents peak interest within your selected comparison, not 100 searches.

Pros

  • Google Trends is free and does not impose usage credits.
  • The comparison feature helps you choose between competing terms based on direction and regional interest.
  • Rising query volume can surface emerging subjects before they appear prominently in conventional keyword databases.

Cons

  • Trends does not provide exact monthly search volumes.
  • Low-volume subjects may lack enough data to produce a useful graph.
  • Selecting a search term instead of a broader topic can significantly change the results.

Key features

  • Keyword Rank Tracker
  • Competitive and Keyword Research
  • Backlink Research
  • Website Audit
  • On-Page SEO Checker
  • AI Results Tracker
  • Report Builder
  • Data and Projects APIs

Google Trends pricing

Free.

Who should use Google Trends?

Use Google Trends when you want to validate whether a category or long-tail keyword is gaining or losing interest.

9. Screaming Frog: Best technical SEO auditing tool

Screaming Frog SEO Spider crawls your website in a similar way to a search engine bot.

It collects URLs, status codes, titles, canonical tags, internal links, and structured data. You can then filter the results to find broken links, redirect chains, duplicated metadata, or non-indexable pages.

Screaming Frog gives you extensive control over how each crawl runs. That flexibility makes it powerful, although the interface can initially feel like a very large spreadsheet.

Pros

  • The free version lets you crawl up to 500 URLs without a time limit.
  • Paid users receive detailed crawl configuration and custom extraction options that support complex technical investigations.
  • Integrations with Search Console, GA4, PageSpeed Insights, and link databases add context to the crawl data.

Cons

  • The spreadsheet-style interface takes time to learn if you are new to technical SEO.
  • Because the software runs on your computer, large crawls can consume considerable memory and processing power.
  • Reports require additional formatting before they are ready to share with a client or executive.

Key features

  • Broken-link detection
  • Redirect and status-code analysis
  • Metadata auditing
  • JavaScript rendering
  • Custom extraction
  • Structured data validation
  • Crawl scheduling
  • XML sitemap generation

Screaming Frog pricing

  • Free: up to 500 URLs
  • Paid: $279 per year

Who should use Screaming Frog?

Choose Screaming Frog if you need to investigate technical, migration, internal-linking, or indexing problems.

10. Sitebulb: Best for visual technical SEO audits

Sitebulb performs technical audits but presents the findings more visually than Screaming Frog.

Its prioritized hints explain what was found and why you may need to fix it. Crawl maps and visual reports also make technical problems easier to communicate to someone who does not want to inspect thousands of rows in a spreadsheet.

Sitebulb Desktop runs on your computer. Alternatively, Cloud plans let you collaborate on audits through a browser.

Pros

  • Sitebulb explains its audit hints, which helps you understand why an issue was flagged before recommending a fix.
  • Its visual crawl maps make internal-linking structures and isolated sections easier to communicate.
  • The generated reports require less manual formatting than raw crawler exports.

Cons

  • Sitebulb doesn’t offer a permanently free version after the trial ends.
  • Desktop crawl capacity depends partly on your computer’s memory and processing power.
  • Cloud pricing is considerably higher than the entry-level desktop plans.

Key features

  • More than 300 audit hints
  • Crawl maps and URL visualizations
  • Internal-link analysis
  • Structured data auditing
  • Accessibility checks
  • Audit comparisons
  • Custom PDF reports
  • Google Sheets exports on Pro

Sitebulb pricing

  • Lite: from $18/month
  • Pro: from $42/month
  • Cloud: from approximately $125/month

A 14-day free trial is available.

Who should use Sitebulb?

Choose Sitebulb when you need to explain technical findings to a client, developer, or marketing leader without handing them a raw crawl export.

11. PageSpeed Insights: Best free website performance tool

PageSpeed Insights analyzes how a page performs on mobile and desktop.

The report combines Lighthouse lab testing with available real-user performance data. It also evaluates the page against Google’s Core Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint, and Cumulative Layout Shift.

PageSpeed Insights identifies possible improvements, but a low score does not always reveal the exact fix. You may need a developer to investigate slow scripts, server response times, or unexpected layout movement.

Pros

  • PageSpeed Insights is free, and you can test any publicly accessible page without creating an account.
  • The report separates mobile and desktop results because the two experiences can differ significantly.
  • Its diagnostics provide a starting point for investigating slow resources and Core Web Vitals failures.

Cons

  • Individual lab scores can fluctuate, so you should run more than one test before drawing a conclusion.
  • Some recommendations require development knowledge and cannot be fixed from an SEO dashboard.
  • A perfect performance score doesn’t compensate for weak content or poor search-intent alignment.

Key features

  • Core Web Vitals assessment
  • Lighthouse scores
  • Mobile and desktop testing
  • Loading diagnostics
  • Accessibility checks and an API

PageSpeed Insights pricing

Free.

Who should use PageSpeed Insights?

Use PageSpeed Insights when you suspect a page is slow or Search Console reports a Core Web Vitals problem.

12. BrightLocal: Best all-in-one local SEO tool

BrightLocal covers the jobs that conventional SEO platforms often miss—especially for local businesses.

A local business needs more than organic keyword research. You may also need to monitor Google Maps rankings, correct inconsistent listings, track reviews, and compare visibility across different parts of a service area.

BrightLocal brings those functions into one platform. Citation building is also available, though each submission costs extra.

Pros

  • BrightLocal combines map rank tracking, listing monitoring, citation auditing, and review management into a single account.
  • Local Search Grid shows how your rankings change across multiple locations rather than reducing an entire city to a single position.
  • White-label reporting helps you present local search results when you manage campaigns for clients.

Cons

  • Citation submissions are charged separately from the monthly subscription.
  • Your cost increases as you add locations or require higher tracking limits.
  • BrightLocal will not replace a broader platform for national keyword research or backlink analysis.

Key features

  • Local Rank Tracker
  • Local Search Grid
  • Citation Tracker
  • Citation Builder
  • Review monitoring
  • Google Business Profile management

BrightLocal pricing

Plans start at $39 per month. Annual billing saves up to 25%.

Citation submissions start at $3.20 each, with lower prices available in bulk. A 14-day free trial is available.

Who should use BrightLocal?

Choose BrightLocal if your customers find you through location-based searches or you manage local campaigns for clients. More specialized options are included in this comparison of local SEO tools.

13. Nightwatch: Best dedicated rank tracker

Nightwatch monitors rankings across Google, Bing, YouTube, Google Maps, and several other search engines. It also tracks visibility across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode, and AI Overviews.

Nightwatch comes recommended when you need more granular ranking information than an all-in-one platform provides. Its location settings are especially helpful when national data hides meaningful differences between cities.

In addition, each ranking check retains a SERP record. You can therefore verify what the search results looked like rather than relying only on a reported number.

Pros

  • Nightwatch provides daily rankings and on-demand checks across several traditional search engines.
  • Its location settings let you monitor rankings at a more precise geographic level than many all-in-one platforms.
  • Unlimited user seats prevent collaboration costs from increasing as more people need access.

Cons

  • The €79 entry price is difficult to justify when Search Console’s aggregated position data is enough for your needs.
  • Data Studio, API access, and white-label reports require the Professional plan.
  • The built-in site audit is too limited to replace a dedicated crawler.

Key features

  • Daily keyword tracking
  • Local rank tracking
  • Competitor monitoring
  • SERP archives
  • AI prompt monitoring
  • White-label reports

Nightwatch pricing

  • Starter: €79/month annually
  • Professional: €159/month annually
  • Agency: €399/month annually
  • Enterprise: custom pricing

A 14-day free trial is available.

Who should use Nightwatch?

Choose Nightwatch if precise rankings are an important deliverable or you need to track performance across several locations. You can compare it with other rank tracking tools before subscribing.

14. Clearscope: Best content optimization tool for larger teams

Clearscope helps you identify subjects and terms that may need to appear in an article.

After analyzing the search results, it produces recommendations and a content grade. You can then share the same report with writers and editors, creating a more consistent optimization process.

A high grade should not become the goal of the article. Content can satisfy every recommendation and still fail because it repeats the same information already available elsewhere.

Pros

  • Clearscope presents its recommendations in a clean, easy-to-use editor while writing.
  • Shared reports give writers and editors a consistent reference point during production.
  • Existing-page monitoring can help you identify articles that may need updating.
  • Clean interface for writers and editors
  • Includes AI search prompt tracking on current plans

Cons

  • The $129 starting price is high if you publish only a small number of articles each month.
  • Clearscope does not replace a full platform for competitor research, backlinks, or technical SEO.
  • Following every recommendation mechanically can produce repetitive and over-optimized writing.

Key features

  • Topic exploration
  • Content briefs
  • Content grading
  • Term and question recommendations
  • Existing-page monitoring
  • AI search visibility tracking
  • Google Docs and WordPress integrations

Clearscope pricing

  • Essentials: $129/month
  • Business: $399/month
  • Enterprise: custom pricing

A 14-day free trial is available.

Who should use Clearscope?

Choose Clearscope if you manage several writers and want a consistent workflow for briefs, optimization, and updates.

15. Surfer: Best lower-cost content optimization tool

Surfer is a more affordable alternative to Clearscope when you pay annually.

Its Content Editor compares your draft with current search results and recommends terms, headings, and an approximate word count. The score updates as you edit, which makes missing subjects easier to spot.

Surfer also provides keyword research, content auditing, and AI writing features. However, its recommendations should remain research inputs rather than instructions you follow mindlessly.

Pros

  • Annual billing makes Surfer less expensive than Clearscope at the entry level.
  • The real-time Content Score gives you immediate feedback as you edit your draft.
  • Integrations with Google Docs and WordPress let you work without staying inside Surfer’s editor.

Cons

  • Monthly billing still costs $99, which may be difficult to justify when you publish infrequently.
  • Optimizing toward a numerical score can make your writing less natural if you add every suggested phrase.
  • Monthly content and audit limits restrict the number of pages you can process on each plan.

Key features

  • Content Editor
  • SERP analysis
  • Keyword research
  • Content Audit
  • Topical Map
  • AI writing

Surfer pricing

  • Essential: $99/month or approximately $79/month annually
  • Scale: $219/month or approximately $175/month annually
  • Enterprise: custom pricing

Who should use Surfer?

Choose Surfer if you want a content optimization workflow but cannot justify Clearscope’s price. These SEO content audit tools can provide additional options for updating existing articles.

16. QuickCreator Extension: Best free browser-based SEO assistant

The QuickCreator Extension adds an SEO and content sidebar to Chrome.

While viewing a page, you can check its title, headings, canonical tag, schema, indexability, internal links, and image alt text. The extension also provides directional traffic estimates and checks for visible E-E-A-T signals.

Here’s what it looks like for one of my pages.

These reports are useful for quick reviews. However, no extension can definitively decide whether Google considers a page trustworthy or written by an expert.

Pros

  • QuickCreator lets you inspect important on-page elements without leaving the page you are reviewing.
  • Because the extension is free, it is useful when you cannot justify the cost of another paid audit tool.
  • Its article and product-page checklists can expose missing authorship, sourcing, and proof elements.

Cons

  • Directional traffic estimates shouldn’t be treated as exact visitor numbers.
  • The E-E-A-T analysis uses visible signals and cannot determine how Google evaluates the page.
  • Since it reviews one page at a time, the extension cannot replace a full website crawler.

Key features

  • Metadata checks
  • Heading analysis
  • Schema detection
  • Indexability checks
  • Internal-link reviews
  • Traffic estimates
  • E-E-A-T checklists

Who should use QuickCreator Extension?

Use QuickCreator for a fast page-level assessment when researching competitors or reviewing a draft.

17. Data Studio: Best for SEO dashboards

Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio) turns data from Search Console, Google Analytics, Sheets, and third-party platforms into interactive reports.

It does not collect SEO data itself. Instead, it brings your existing sources together. You could display rankings, organic traffic, and conversions without requiring someone to open multiple tools.

The standard version is enough for many reporting workflows. Costs usually appear when you need paid connectors for non-Google products.

Pros

  • The standard version is free and connects natively to Search Console, GA4, and Google Sheets.
  • Interactive filters let the person viewing a report change dates, devices, pages, and other dimensions.
  • Shareable dashboards reduce the need to manually rebuild the same monthly report.

Cons

  • Building a useful dashboard takes time because you must decide which metrics and filters to include.
  • Third-party connectors for platforms such as Semrush may require a separate subscription.
  • Complex reports can load slowly or break when a connected data source changes its fields.

Key features

  • Custom dashboards
  • Data blending
  • Interactive filters
  • Scheduled delivery
  • Shareable links
  • Native Google connectors

Data Studio pricing

The standard version is free. Data Studio Pro adds enterprise collaboration and administration.

Who should use Data Studio?

Choose Data Studio if you need to combine data from several tools or produce a recurring SEO report.

18. Gumloop: Best for flexible SEO workflow automation

Gumloop connects SEO tools with spreadsheets, AI models, browsers, and other business applications.

For example, you could build a workflow that pulls declining pages from Search Console, classifies the likely cause, and adds suitable update candidates to a spreadsheet. Another workflow might monitor competitor pages or prepare the first version of a content brief.

Gumloop does not provide keyword or backlink data on its own. You need to connect the relevant source before the automation can use that information.

Pros

  • Gumloop’s visual builder lets you automate multi-step SEO tasks without writing the entire workflow in code.
  • Its connectors allow you to integrate SEO data with spreadsheets, project management platforms, and AI models.
  • Unlimited seats on the Pro plan let you involve colleagues without paying a separate fee for every account.

Cons

  • Gumloop cannot replace an SEO database because it depends on the sources you connect to it.
  • Complex workflows consume more credits and may cost more than the entry price suggests.
  • A poorly designed process will produce unreliable output faster, so every workflow needs testing and review.

Key features

  • Visual workflow builder
  • AI agents
  • Scheduled triggers
  • Browser automation
  • API connections
  • Shared workflows

Gumloop pricing

  • Pro: from $37/month with annual billing
  • Enterprise: custom pricing

A 14-day free trial is available.

Who should use Gumloop?

Choose Gumloop when you already have a repeatable SEO process and want to remove manual copying, sorting, or reporting steps.

19. RankShift: Best AI visibility tool for broad platform coverage

RankShift tracks how your brand appears across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, Mistral, and Meta AI.

I’ve been on a paid plan for about two months now. The Sources report is the feature I use most because it shows which websites AI platforms cite for the prompts I’m tracking.

I can see whether my own articles appear and identify the publications that shape how AI systems answer questions about my category.

RankShift also tracks Brand Perception. Instead of telling you only whether your company appeared, it surfaces the attributes AI associates with it.

Pros

  • Every plan includes unlimited users and projects, so your cost does not rise whenever another colleague or client needs access.
  • RankShift tracks nine AI platforms on every plan, allowing you to compare broader coverage without purchasing individual model add-ons.
  • The Sources report shows which domains and pages influence the answers generated for your prompts.
  • Brand Perception reveals how AI platforms describe your company rather than reporting only how frequently it appears.

Cons

  • The credit system can be hard to understand because usage depends on your prompts, selected platforms, and tracking frequency.
  • RankShift shows where your visibility is weak but offers limited guidance on what to do next.
  • Its Content Engine remains in beta, and the generated briefs and drafts need significant editing.
  • Historical data is limited because RankShift is still relatively new.

Key features

  • Prompt tracking
  • Share-of-voice reports
  • Brand Perception
  • Citation analysis
  • AI crawler analytics
  • Data Studio integration
  • API access

RankShift pricing

  • Starter: $82/month with annual billing
  • Professional: $189/month with annual billing
  • Business: $425/month with annual billing
  • Enterprise: custom pricing

Who should use RankShift?

Choose RankShift if you need to monitor several AI platforms, manage multiple projects, or give more people access without increasing your seat costs.

20. AirOps: Best for scaling SEO and content workflows

AirOps connects SEO and AI search insights with content production.

You can build workflows for keyword clustering, content briefs, article updates, internal linking, and publishing. AirOps Grids then let you run those workflows across many pages rather than processing one item at a time.

The platform also supports brand kits, knowledge bases, and human-review checkpoints. Consequently, you can give an AI workflow more context while retaining control before anything is published.

AirOps is not a conventional SEO database. You may still need Ahrefs, Semrush, Search Console, or another source to provide the data that powers your workflows.

Pros

  • AirOps connects research, content creation, optimization, and publishing inside a repeatable workflow.
  • Human-review checkpoints let you inspect important outputs before they move to the next stage or reach your CMS.
  • Its integrations with SEO tools and content management systems reduce the need to manually transfer data between platforms.
  • Grids let you apply a workflow to many pages, which is useful during large content updates and programmatic projects.

Cons

  • Pricing is not publicly displayed, so you may need to have a sales conversation before you can evaluate the full cost.
  • Building reliable workflows requires an established process and takes longer than using a single-purpose writing tool.
  • AI-generated briefs and drafts still require subject-matter input and editorial review before publication.
  • AirOps will not replace a dedicated backlink database, rank tracker, or technical crawler.

Key features

  • AI Search Insights
  • Workflows
  • Grids
  • Brand Kits
  • Knowledge bases
  • Content refreshes
  • CMS integrations
  • Human-review stages

AirOps pricing

  • Solo: free starting option with one user, 100 tracked prompts and pages, and 20,000 content-production tasks
  • Pro: paid pricing is not publicly listed
  • Pages: custom pricing

Who should use AirOps?

Choose AirOps if you already have a working content process and need to apply it across many pages without removing human review.

21. Profound: Best for enterprise answer engine optimization

Profound combines AI visibility data with content agents, prompt-volume research, and AI traffic attribution.

Compared with lighter monitoring tools, it is better suited to you if answer engine optimization has become a defined marketing program rather than an occasional report.

Although Starter costs $99 per month, it only tracks ChatGPT. Coverage across three answer engines and access to more of the platform begin with the Growth plan.

Pros

  • Profound provides detailed brand, competitor, and citation monitoring across major answer engines.
  • Daily tracking helps you see whether visibility changes persist rather than relying on occasional manual checks.
  • Agent Analytics can connect AI-driven activity with your website and attribution infrastructure.
  • The platform includes content agents that can help you move from visibility findings to production.

Cons

  • The Starter plan tracks ChatGPT only, which limits the value of its $99 entry price.
  • Growth costs $399 per month on an annual plan, making the broader platform expensive for a small company.
  • Generated content requires editorial and subject-matter review before it is ready to publish.
  • Profound includes more infrastructure than you need when your only goal is monitoring a small set of prompts.

Key features

  • Answer Engine Insights
  • Citation tracking
  • Profound Agents
  • Prompt-volume research
  • Agent Analytics
  • CSV or JSON exports

Profound pricing

  • Starter: $99/month with annual billing
  • Growth: $399/month with annual billing
  • Enterprise: custom pricing

Who should use Profound?

Choose Profound if you are building an enterprise answer engine optimization program and need visibility tracking, content execution, and attribution in one platform.

Whichever product you select, its data should inform how you optimize content for AI search.

How to build your SEO stack

Buying more tools does not automatically produce better SEO.

Start with the work you need to complete each month. Then choose the smallest combination that covers those jobs without creating unnecessary overlap.

Best free SEO stack

Combine Google Search Console with GA4, Google Trends, PageSpeed Insights, Data Studio, and the free version of Screaming Frog. QuickCreator can provide fast page-level checks while you browse.

Estimated cost: $0

This stack covers performance, traffic, page speed, reporting, and technical crawling for a small website. However, it will not provide deep competitor or backlink research.

Best budget stack for a content writer

Use Keywords Everywhere for research and Surfer for on-page optimization. Search Console and GA4 can measure the results after publication.

Estimated cost: Approximately $86 per month with annual billing.

Surfer accounts for most of that cost. If you don’t publish enough to justify it, use Keywords Everywhere with free tools until your output increases.

Best stack for a small business

Pair Morningscore with Search Console, GA4, PageSpeed Insights, and Data Studio.

Estimated cost: $69 per month.

Morningscore adds competitor research and ongoing guidance to the free Google tools.

Best local SEO stack

Use BrightLocal alongside Google Business Profile, Search Console, GA4, and PageSpeed Insights.

Estimated cost: From $39 per month, excluding citation purchases.

BrightLocal handles map rankings, reviews, and listings. Meanwhile, the Google tools cover website traffic and technical performance.

Best stack for a freelance SEO consultant

Use SE Ranking Core for research and tracking, then add Screaming Frog for technical audits. Data Studio can handle recurring client reports.

Estimated cost: $103.20 per month plus Screaming Frog’s annual license.

Best stack for a B2B SaaS content program

Use Ahrefs for competitor research and Surfer or Clearscope for optimization. Search Console and GA4 will measure results, while RankShift can monitor the buyer prompts you care about across AI search.

Estimated cost: From $208 per month without AI visibility tracking.

Add RankShift when you have a focused set of prompts and someone who can act on its citation data.

Best stack for a content operation at scale

Use AirOps to automate briefs, updates, internal linking, and publishing workflows. Connect it to your preferred SEO data source and keep human review before publication.

Estimated cost: Custom, depending on the paid AirOps plan and connected tools

Best stack for an agency

SE Ranking Growth with the Agency Pack includes projects, reports, and white-labeling. Add Screaming Frog for audits and Nightwatch when precise rankings are a paid deliverable.

Estimated cost: From $292.20 per month, excluding specialist tools.

Best enterprise SEO and AEO stack

Semrush Advanced can provide broad research and API access. Sitebulb Cloud covers collaborative technical auditing, while Profound handles enterprise AI visibility and attribution.

The final cost will depend on your website size, tracking volume, user count, and security requirements.

Turn your SEO data into content buyers can use

SEO tools can identify an opportunity. Someone still has to research the topic, understand your product, and turn the findings into an article worth ranking or citing.

Frequently asked questions about SEO tools

What is the best affordable SEO tool?

Keywords Everywhere is one of the most affordable options for keyword research. Its entry plan costs only a fraction of what an Ahrefs or Semrush subscription costs.

For broader SEO work, Morningscore offers an all-in-one platform from $69 per month.

What are the best free SEO tools?

Google Search Console, GA4, Google Trends, PageSpeed Insights, Data Studio, QuickCreator Extension, and Screaming Frog’s free version cover a large portion of the work required for a small website.

What is the best local SEO tool?

BrightLocal is the strongest all-in-one local option on this list because it covers rankings, listings, reviews, citations, and reports.

Is PageSpeed Insights an SEO tool?

Yes. It measures page performance and Core Web Vitals while identifying technical improvements.

Page speed is only one part of SEO, though. A fast page still needs to satisfy the search intent and provide useful information.

Can free SEO tools replace Semrush or Ahrefs?

Free tools can replace part of their functionality.

You can combine Search Console, GA4, Screaming Frog, Sheets, and Data Studio to create a capable workflow. However, you will not receive the same competitor, keyword, or backlink database.

Do you need more than one SEO tool?

Usually, yes—but you don’t need several paid subscriptions.

A practical stack often consists of one paid platform, supported by free Google tools, and a specialist product for the job that your main platform handles poorly.

Are AI SEO tools worth paying for?

They can be useful when buyers use AI platforms to research your category, and you have a clear list of prompts to monitor.

Wait until you have someone responsible for acting on the data. Watching an AI visibility score change will not improve your presence by itself.

What is the difference between an SEO tool and an SEO automation tool?

An SEO tool provides data or helps you perform a specific search-related task. Ahrefs supplies competitor and backlink data, while Screaming Frog crawls websites.

An automation platform such as Gumloop or AirOps connects several steps. It might pull data from another tool, analyze it, prepare an output, and send the result somewhere else.
